About Marian

marian-knappMarian Leah Knapp, Ph.D.

At age 64, Marian, writer and community activist, enrolled in the doctoral program at Antioch University New England, Environmental Studies Department, to investigate the total environment in which people age. She obtained her degree in 2009 shortly after her 70th birthday. Her goal was to use what she learned to benefit her community and those who were aging along with her. Now, she writes a column for her local newspaper from the perspective of an older adult who knows from profound, personal experience the realities of that life-stage. Readers tell her “You are writing what I am thinking.” Marian, who has two sons, two daughters-in-law, and three grandchildren, lives in Newton, Massachusetts. She is chair of the Newton Council on Aging, a position that is appointed by the Board of Aldermen and the Mayor. She is a strong, outspoken advocate for seniors.
